Daily the blogosphere is becoming more jam packed with so many blogs, so much that it's hardly easy for newbies to get a little breathing space. The Nigerian web space boasts of millions of blogs. but the question still remains- as a newbie in blogging, what  smart tricks cold you use to drive good traffic to your blog, despite the competition? Before reading this post I'm sure you know that the income your blog generates all depends on the amount of traffic you can attract to it, in form of a large audience of readers. This post gives you basic yet tried and tested rules, tips and tricks that that will help you easily drive good traffic to that new blog of yours. But hey! if you sure know that your blog rakes in over 1500 visits a month, then this post sure isn't for you.*wink*

Create irresistable content: This is the first great step you'll have to take. To attract readers you'll have to work  hard (but not too hard) to create content  good enough to satisfy your readers. Create solid write-ups, that will supply information to whatever reader who may likely stumble upon you blog. Also add images, videos, infographs to your blog posts. you should also work hard to update regularly. The life of your blog depends on it. The Nigerian webspace is littered with virtually empty blogs, or blogs with stale content.
Use SEO: SEO is a web acronym for Search Engine Optimization. This are certain protocols that determine your  blog's search rank on search engines. One major SEO trick is the use of keywords in blogposts. This are words or phrases that are used by web users in searching for info on search engines. Make good use of keywords in your blog heading, description, in every paragraph. But be careful not to use them carelessly. A major source of search keywords used by most bloggers is google adwords.
Publicise your blog content: No matter how good your content is, it will attract just a little traffic except, you make some good noise about it. Just imagine investing good time writing a book, at the end publishing just one copy and keeping that single copy on under your pillow. I'll definitely eat my head if that book becomes a bestseller. Make good use of the social media. you could create a fan page on facebook, this will enable your readers follow your updates. You could also send emails to people who you know could be in need of the info contained in your write-up.Spend good time on googleplus. Transfer your blogposts to your googleplus profile.
Submit your blog to search engines. Almost missed this. but it is also very important. Start first by submitting your blog's name and URL to a search engine like google. There also a good number of other search engines such as bing and yahoo that allow free idexing of websites. Also search up blog directories and forums. Submit your site to this forums. Try to be active on them, you could also meet fellow bloggers in your niche and have the opportunity to exchange and share ideas with them.
Guest posting: This is still very important. Post more on other blogs( especially popular ones) than you do on yours. Also create and actively participate in forum thread and topics. I know of so many bloggers who where able to build a huge base of loyal readers just by guest posting on other blogs. Guest posting on a popular blog is just a very good way of attracting that blog's traffic to yours.
RSS: Stands for Really Simple Synchronisation. This is one tool that enable your spread your posts like wild fire. Synchronising your blog content using RSS enables your readers to visit and get the info you have on your blog easily. Also RSS eliminates the problem of having to manually go creating awareness of your blog content on social networks. And so your blog content can easily by synchronised with your facebook fan page, google plus profile with just a few clicks of the mouse.
Harness the power of comments: comments, yes comments. Make good use of all those comments that pour into your blog after posting your stuff. never neglect them. try as much as possible to answer those questions, reply those kudos. just a "thank you" will go a long way in making that your first time reader feel important and possibly make hm/her come back again. You could take it a step further, visit other blogs and forums with content on the topic you've posted on. Try to add value by commenting and answering comments. You could gradually get the trust of some readers and further introduce them to your blog.
